Reprogramming of Alphanumeric Pagers | Print |  E-mail
Starting on Monday, May 2nd, Wake County will transition the alphanumeric paging system to a new operational frequency. This is to eliminate an interference problem with the Granville County Sheriffs Dept radio system. The transition will require two processes to be completed; the reprogramming of all Advisor II pagers and the reprogramming of all paging transmitters.

Wireless will begin the process of reprogramming all Fire and EMS pagers, over 1000 total, on Monday morning. As the pagers are completed, Wake County will pick them up and return them to the headquarters/main stations.

It is expected that we will be start delivering pagers starting Monday afternoon, May 2nd; however, the entire reprogramming process is expected to take most the week to complete.

As part of the reprogramming process, certain departments will have the FIRE ALL CALL mail drop feature removed. The departments expressing desire to have this removed are Garner, Hopkins, Rolesville, Wendell, and Zebulon.

Departments that will maintain the FIRE ALL CALL mail drop are Bay Leaf, Durham Highway, Eastern Wake, Fairview, Falls, Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, Knightdale, Morrisville, New Hope, Stony Hill, Swift Creek, Wake Forest, and Western Wake.

Wireless and Motorola will make the necessary changes at the transmitter sites on Monday so that as pagers are returned to the agencies, they will be functional.

Additional Information

During the outage, personnel should monitor the VHF and 800MHz alert channels, as well as the CAD printer, for dispatch information. Personnel should inquire to DISP_1 or the appropriate TAC channel for additional information on calls when the CAD printout is unavailable, or when additional information is needed.

Pagers will need to be taken directly to Wireless for reprogramming. The pagers will not work after Monday morning. We will let everyone know when they can start carrying the units to Wireless, most likely beginning the week of May 9th. They request that if you desire to wait for pagers to be reprogrammed, you phone ahead for an appointment. They can be reached at 786-0891, Extension 500.
