Because of Hurricane Katrina, all three vehicle fuel pipelines (from
Texas) coming into North Carolina through Louisiana are closed. We
understand that the pipelines are structurally sound, but there is no
electricity to pump the fuel through the pipelines. As a result, fuel
shortages may occur very soon, and we do not know how long the
shortages might last.
The Governor's Office and industry officials and others are meeting
today to discuss what actions will be needed statewide to deal with any
fuel shortages that develop. The League and the Association have
jointly prepared recommendations to help you until we can
further assess this situation. We will provide additional information
as it becomes available.
